Bloggy Updates 12/2

I’ve never been a morning person.

If I didn’t have to get up and go to work, I would probably stay up until 1:30am or 2, and then sleep until 9:30 or 10 every day. While some folks get up at the crack of roosters, I’ve always felt more comfortable waking up in the latter half of the morning.

These past few weeks, I’ve found myself having to get up early. I mean frighteningly early, like before 6am. One time was to take the car in to be serviced. Other times were simply being unable to stay asleep until the alarm went off (6:20am on work days).

I could say that it’s because I’m getting older or didn’t need the sleep, but I don’t think so.

All the book signing events are done for the year, so that “stress” is gone. BUT…we are heading into the final weeks of the semester, and for me, that means crazy time. Thousands (yes, literally) of books return home to the library and it is my job to make sure they are all shelved. I’m also in the midst of a huge project – shifting an entire floor – moving books – and on Floor 4. There are probably around 400,000 of them. That’s a LOT of podcast listening! For a few days, I turned on the pedometer, just to see how far I walk during an average day of shifting. It ranged between 3 – 5 miles. A day.

We’ve also had a new water meter installed at home (required by our town),  the kitchen and dining room repainted, the furnace guy here twice, and learned about a family member dealing with a serious illness. Throw in the normal routines of life and it’s no wonder that I’m up at weird hours of the night.

I still have the last two chapters to revise on Buried. I’ll get to them now that November is over.

Complaining? No…just venting. Just using this platform to say and share that days (and nights) will be full of unexpected hassles and stress. While some of these things are brought on by myself, others certainly have not been.

Control? Lack of control? Most likely a mix of the two.

I’m glad it’s December. I’m glad that there are only three weeks left of work at ISU before the break. I’m glad our kitchen looks nice and that we have heat again.

What are your stresses during this time of year? Feel free to unload them in the comments section. Sometimes, it helps to have a place to vent.

  1. It sounds like a lot has come at you at once. And that library project…yeesh. But you’ll maintain. Haven’t you always?
I’m the complete opposite of you. I’m one of those insufferable ‘morning larks’. It’s just how I’m wired. My husband, on the other hand, is a night owl and is constantly baffled at the hours I keep.

    1. Thanks, Rachael! That’s too funny about the lark/owl situation! I am lucky since Charlie is a total owl too. Come to think of it, I would say that the majority of my immediate family are/were owls 🙂
