I’m hesitant to say that I’m looking forward to 2026. I did that last year about this time and 2025 threw me a curve ball almost right out of the gate with my brother’s passing in February. Then, it hit again the day we got back from an incredible vacation (Biscuit having to be put to sleep from feline leukemia).
I know. I can spiral downwards pretty easily. That’s just the depression talking.
But, 2025 DID have some awesome parts – a trip to Norway/Denmark, a new book that came out (In a Corner, Darkly: Volume 3), some robust and fun book events, visits with family, Charlie (duh, of course!), and Monkey. I’m just feeling pretty cautious as of late and I imagine that some of you might feel the same way (for your own reasons).
It can be challenging to look ahead, but we must. We have to continue. Even if we only take it one day, one hour, or one minute at a time. We push forward and beyond. That’s just what we do.
As for plans? Yes. I DO have them! I PLAN to start a brand new novel (draft one, of course) sometime in the first few months of ’26. I also PLAN to create and present a two or three part writing class for a group here in town (ARC – for those who know it). I also PLAN to co-host a HUGE garage sale this May that will clear out some much needed space in both the house and garage. Another PLAN is to continue to write short book reviews for Candace Nola and her website, Uncomfortably Dark. PLANS are also in the works to find and attend some book/author/craft events in 2026 (some new ones and some ‘old’ ones).
I also HOPE to find more authors, artists, and music peeps to interview for the blog. If YOU know of anyone, please send them my way! (srovens@yahoo.com)
What the heck have we been watching?
Severance (Series) – Mark leads a team of office workers whose memories have been surgically divided between their work and personal lives; when a mysterious colleague appears outside of work, it begins a journey to discover the truth about their jobs. (Google) We are in the early episodes of Season One. I have to say…I’m finding it pretty riveting. It’s flipping back and forth between horror, sci-fi, dystopian, and comedy. Normally, I’d be first to say that those combinations couldn’t work if a life depended on it, but I have to admit, I am ALL IN. Great casting, great acting, and so very compelling. I hope it continues.
Pluribus (Series) – The most miserable person on Earth must save the world from happiness. (Google) I like it, but…we’ve only seen the first 6 episodes. The premise is intriguing and with Vince Gilligan at the helm, what’s not to like? (Breaking Bad, anyone?) BUT I don’t know how much anger I can handle from the main character. I understand the reasons for her resentment and rage, but holy cow, I’m exhausted from having her be SO unbearable THE ENTIRE TIME she’s on screen. I’ll keep going with future episodes, but here’s to hoping that something, ANYthing good or positive happens.
Okay, that’s a wrap for now. What are YOU looking forward to in 2026? Plans? Hopes? Just sleeping in until 2027? π Inquiring minds want to know! π
